It is worth mentioning that all the elected Hindu leader of the pre-partition Bengal legislatures, including Hindu communists — Mr. Jyoti Basu and Mr. Ratanlal Brahman —other leftists and all Congress Party Members voted for partition of Bengal into Hindu west Bengal and Muslim east. Mr. Basu is a native of Dhaka in Bangladesh while Mr. Brahman is a Nepali speaking Bengal citizen from Darjeeling Hill area. Mr. Basu chose not to live in his Muslim majority Pakistan/Bangladeshi homeland. …. On the other face of mass killings of Hindus by Muslim League supporters of partition, practically the entire elite Hindu Bengali leadership of Pakistan —communists, Congress, socialists, nationalists, oppressed caste –deserted their poor followers overnight for the safety of Hindu India, while preaching Hindu-Muslim cohabitation……..” (Sachi K. Dastidar, Bengal’s Hindu Holocaust, Garuda Publication, New Delhi, p, 54).
