Hazrat Bal killings: The anti Hindu Hazrat Bal (Prophet Muhammed’s hair) Danga pogroms started in Bangladesh (then East Pakistan) as a rumor, was spread that the sacred hair of Prophet Hazrat Mohammed, founder of Islam in Arabia, kept in a mosque in Srinagar was stole, Surprisingly, the anti Hindu pogrom began 1,500 miles away in the Bengal East Pakistan, but not across the order in Punjabi West Pakistan or in Kashmir itself, India or Pakistani Bengali nationalists suggest that it was to divert the public anger in the East Pakistan against West Pakistan’s exploitation. Because of press censorship and self-censorship actual data is difficult o come by, Washington Post (January 22, 1964) report that over a thousand Hindus were killed on the first day, including an American Catholic priest, Father Richar Noval as did the London Times (January 23, 1964).
Mostly urban Hindu Bengalis were selectively killed with the support of the Government in the capital city of Dhaka. This resulted in a fresh wave of Bengali Hindu refugees in the neighborhood, West Bengal.
