The Muslims of India and The Ottoman Caliphat

The two colonial powers collaborate to keep India a colonized space :

1871: Abstract of Proceedings of the Mohamedan Literacy Society of Calcutta:

The following is the consensus reached at the meeting: “In a meeting of the Mohamedan Literary Society of Calcutta attended by many Muslim Luminaries and prominent Sunni Ulemas, including Abdul Latif, Karama Ali, Abdul Hakim etc al, Moulavi Fazl Alu pleased that the Muslim relationship with the British Raj in India should be based on cordiality and cooperation in view of the Rajs’ relation with the Ottoman Sultan Caliph. He stressed the status of the Sultan of Turkey as the caliph of Islam, and therefore suggested that , “all Muhammadans look upon him as the head of their religion, and as he enjoys cordial and friendly relations with the British Government, jehad against the British nation is unlawful”. On the other hand, Ali Pasha, the Grand Vezir of Turkey assured Britain “that the Porte would never countenance any attempt by the Indian Muslims to harm British interest.” (Azmi Ozcan, Pan Islamism).
